Music is a vibrant part of worship and congregational life at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. It takes the participation and enthusiasm of many to create the magic and beauty of music that warms and inspires our worship services. St. Martin's was founded in 1874 as a German Lutheran congregation because of the meeting of some German businessmen and a Lutheran Circuit Rider, Rev. Ernest Idle. We are a church with a strong identity for traditional choral worship and strong musical liturgy. In 1991, the church was privileged to install a pipe organ which is used every week for worship services and for rehearsals, concerts, and local organ students.

Pastor Dave Oravec began his call to serve at St. Martin’s Lutheran in August 2013. Prior to that he served as Interim Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Hagerstown (’11-’13) and as Pastor at Evangelical Lutheran in Frederick (’90-’09). A Navy chaplain, holding the rank of Captain, he also spent several years working with Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed, Bethesda, as the Command Chaplain on the USNS Comfort, and in Ramadi, Iraq where he ministered to Seabees and Marines in ’04-05.

He is a graduate of Western Maryland College (BA- history); the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, PA ( M.Div.), and Wesley Theological Seminary, WashingtonDC (D. Min.- spirituality).

He and his wife Sandy love living on the South River in Annapolis and they have four grown children. Sandy teaches a lively and wonderful group of second grade students at Mills-Parole Elementary School. Together they enjoy traveling, reading, music, kayaking, and spending time with family and the many wonderful folks at St. Martin’s and beyond.

Pastor Dave notes that proclaiming Christ’s Good News and having the privilege of serving others in the role of pastor are among his greatest joys. Dave, Sandy, and Sandy's daughter all sing in the Chancel Choir. He is excited and filled with hope about the years to come with the congregation and school at St. Martin’s!
